How to Ask Someone Out on a Date in Australia 💋

Joining the dating scene in a new country can be a bit tricky…. we know, we’ve done it lots of times 😅
The dating culture in English speaking countries may be quite different to what you are used to in your culture but don’t worry, we’re here to help 💘!
Here are some dating tips in Australia on how to ask someone out on a date like a true Aussie:

1. Be Casual and Confident:
Australians generally like a laid-back and confident approach. You don’t need to be too formal – just be yourself! 😊
  • “Hey, I was wondering if you’d like to grab a coffee sometime?”
  • “How about we go for a drink after work?”
2. Suggest Fun Activities 🌹: Australia offers a lot of fun activities that make great date ideas. Suggest something enjoyable and low-pressure:
  • “Want to go to the beach this weekend?”
  • “How about we check out that new brunch spot in town?”
3. Use Aussie Slang 💐: Using a bit of local slang can show your interest in the culture and make the conversation more natural:
  • “Wanna catch up for a cuppa?” (cuppa = cup of tea/coffee)
  • “Keen for a barbie this arvo?” (barbie = barbecue, arvo = afternoon)
4. Respect Their Response 🙅🏼‍♀️: Whether they say yes or no, respect their response and be gracious. If they say yes, great! If not, no worries – there’s always next time.
  • “No worries if you’re busy, maybe another time?”
  • “Thanks for letting me know, maybe we can catch up another time?”
5. Follow Up 🙋🏽:
If they agree to go out, follow up with details and confirm plans closer to the date:
  • “Looking forward to our coffee on Saturday! I’ll see you at 10am at [Cafe Name].”
  • “Excited for our beach day! I’ll pick you up at 11am.”
6. Be patient but clear in what you want😌: Casual dating is popular in Australia and many Aussies are not comfortable expressing their feelings too soon. Be patient but also clear about what you are looking for.
  • I’m looking for something more serious
  • I’m looking for something casual
  • I enjoy spending time with you but I’m not ready for a relationship (aka ‘a situationship’)
  • I want to see you but also see other people (aka ‘friends with benefits’)
We hope these tips help you feel more comfortable and confident when asking someone out in Australia. Good luck and have fun 🥳!
